Krynica - Zdrój ( originally Krzenycze ) a village founded in 1547 by Danko of Miastko ( former name of present Tylicz ).

Since its foundation until the first partition of Poland, Krynica was part of the so - called Borderlands of Muszyna Region,
which belonged to bishops of Cracow.

In 1793, an Austrian official, Franz Stix von Saunbergen purchased a plot of land including a mineral water spring,
with an idea of a spa foundation.

First health - resort constructions were then built, but only after 1856 the most rapid growth happened, thanks to Professor Józef Dietl.
In 1889, Krynica was granted a town charter.

Since January 1944 till February 1945, Krynica was the seat of an apostolic ordinary to Lemkivshchyna
( Lemko people inhabited region ), Ołeksander Małynowśki.

Apart from the already existing funicular railway running to the Parkowa Mountain, a gondola lift was built in 1997.

It runs to the Jaworzyna Krynicka mountain ( 1114 metres above see level ) and is capable to transport
1200 persons within an hour.

Krynica - Zdrój has become a major ski resort thanks to this investment.
